We all love the classics, whether it's music, cars, or video games. While we can't always access and play those golden oldie video game titles in the way we experienced them in the past, emulation technology has improved enough to allow us to revisit those nostalgic favorites on modern devices. At REDMAGIC, we understand that our fans have versatile tastes, and we want to provide versatile gaming options to choose from. This is why emulation technology has always been a key factor in the development of our devices.
Today, we’ll be focusing on how the REDMAGIC 11 Pro has solidified itself as a pioneering and world-class gaming smartphone, and how the genius Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, combined with several other features, has ensured that title. We’ll be looking at how the 11 Pro absolutely dominates when it comes to emulation and how you can relive the greats again without skipping a single frame.
Elite Emulation Power
Video game emulation has always been a very hit-and-miss format, with many devices failing to render effectively, stuttering over graphics, and just loosely keeping it together long enough. As technology evolved, emulation suddenly became a lot easier, with more gaming smartphones steadily catching up and being able to run PC, console, and other AAA games.
For REDMAGIC, the popularity of emulation has been an opportunity to showcase our skills and upgrade our features for a wider audience. Our flagship 11 Pro launch was the perfect stepping-stone to getting the enhanced performance we needed to achieve that. Armed with the record-breaking Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the 11 Pro absolutely soared through benchmark testing, effortlessly pushing beyond what we thought was possible.

Fitted with an Oryon™ CPU with a clock speed of up to 4.61 GHz and an Adreno™ GPU for exceptional graphics and smooth gameplay, the 11 Pro took no prisoners when it came to delivering smoother graphics, rapid processing, and lightning-fast multitasking prowess. These were all the ideal ingredients for creating a powerhouse device capable of running the most advanced emulators with ease.
Go for Pro with REDMAGIC
Now, the 11 Pro was already no stranger to gasps of awe from the audience before we even got the testing. As the world’s first mass-produced, liquid-cooled smartphone, it was already grabbing headlines for its innovative specs. However, the gloves soon came off, and people were ready to challenge the promise we made of superior gameplay and performance.
The 11 Pro obviously put up a fight, armed with both LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.1 Pro storage to ensure ultra-smooth performance with super-resolution, frame interpolation, touch response, and 33% lower latency. For the gamers in the crowd, our in-house upgraded REDMAGIC RedCore R4 gaming chip also put in some elbow grease by enhancing gameplay with customizable effects and using Qualcomm-powered 2K super-resolution for smoother visuals while optimizing battery life and cooling with intelligent power management during intense sessions.

Suddenly, the 11 Pro was a beast to be reckoned with in the gaming arena, and reviewers were quick to test it out, especially for the emulation fans out there. Retro Tech Dad noted that emulation remains one of the best ways to really show off the extra oomph that comes with a new chipset like the 8 Elite Gen 5. In his 11 Pro review, he pushed emulation to the limit with PS2, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, and PS3 emulators, stating that sixth-generation consoles and earlier will have absolutely no issue with the 11 Pro.

Tested against big titles like the Final Fantasy 7 remake, Crew 2, and God of War, the 11 Pro performed seamlessly at the highest settings, setting up frame rates and graphics effortlessly. The review concluded that the 11 Pro’s gaming-focused features, like the impressive vapor chamber, really make for “an excellent gaming experience that can handle pretty much everything that the world of Android can offer, including some pretty heavy emulation and PC gaming.”
According to BoredAtWork’s review, the 11 Pro’s flagship-level Snapdragon processor, combined with ultra-fast RAM and storage, allows it to handle demanding AAA games, emulators, and high-FPS titles with ease. He notes that gameplay feels smooth and consistent, even under heavy load, making it ideal for gamers who want console or PC-style performance on the go.

For TA Tech, the 11 Pro was quickly labelled the best gaming phone on the market right now in his review. Pushing the device through Android and emulator gameplay, he was steadily impressed with how well the frame rates, cooling, and performance performed. Using a Switch emulator, he played Super Smash Bros with ease and found that the phone actually cooled down more as he played, even while being maxed out at the highest settings, proving that the 11 Pro easily handles emulation demands.

He even stated that the 11 Pro was almost better than the Switch itself because you could achieve 1080p running at a stable 60 frames per second with a temperature that hasn’t budged from 30°. This stable heat performance is due to the 11 Pro’s innovative liquid-cooled AquaCore system that effectively reduces heat and actively cools your phone as you play.
However, the world of emulation is incomplete with new and upcoming developments along the road, which is why we were even more excited to hear that emulation performance could be getting more of a boost this year with enhanced drivers.
New Turnip Driver Potential
Since last year, rumors have been swirling about the development of an open-source Turnip Vulkan driver for Qualcomm’s Adreno 8xx GPUs. This was promised to ensure improved emulation performance running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite and 8 Elite Gen 5 chipsets. According to several sources, the new Turnip driver was released earlier in the week.
Developer and Qualcomm employee, Rob Clark, specifically mentioned that this driver would support the Adreno 840 GPU inside the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 but suggested that it would also support the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s Adreno 830 GPU. That wouldn’t be a surprise, as the two chipsets have a similar “sliced” GPU architecture.
Android Authority remains hopeful that this new Turnip driver will deliver better performance and improved compatibility when running cutting-edge apps such as GameHub, RPCSX-UI-Android, Eden, and other advanced emulators. If the driver is successful, it could help with rendering issues, frame rate stability, and more.

On Reddit, certain users have already taken to showcasing the capabilities of the driver with 8 Elite chipsets, including the REDMAGIC 11 Pro. While the results are still shaky in some areas, there is definitely improvement and room for much more to come.
